This pattern was given to me by a Belgian lady over 40 years ago but of course I had no idea how to work this type of lace all those years ago. I did however, promise myself that I would make it one day. Well, here it is!

Guild of Needlelace Trophy Winner

I entered my Point de Gaze collar in the Traditional category of The Lace Guild 'Discovery Triennial Competition & Exhibition'  2019, not expecting to win anything at all as the Traditional category is not to the best of my knowledge, a Competition but understood it to be an Exhibition.  You can imagine my surprise to receive a letter from The Lace Guild advising me that I had been awarded a Medal of Excellence and The Guild of Needlelace Trophy for my collar!  I received another letter from them some two weeks later, advising me that my collar had also won the visitor's choice and had been awarded the Cynthia Voysey Trophy!

There were some exquisite entries but for a piece of fine white Tradtional Needlelace rather than a coloured contemporary work to be the visitor's choice, was beyond belief!  It is my dearest wish to ensure that the fine white traditional needlelaces do not disappear into obscurity and am delighted to learn that there is still an appreciation of this beautiful but sadly neglected form of Needlelace.
